RSS Icon What are RSS news feeds?

News feeds are essentially simple webpages that are designed to be read by computers instead of people. RSS News feeds allow you to keep up to date with the lastest headlines and information that interests you without having to visit the website the News Feed is from.

How do I start using RSS?

The main thing you need is a tool called an RSS News Reader. This is a piece of software that goes to each website you subscribe to and collects the latest news and brings it back into one place for you to read.

RSS news readers fit into two main categories: web based news readers that allow you to access your feeds from any computer any where in the world, and downloadable applications that have to be installed onto your PC or Laptop. This approach is similar to email where you either use Outlook which is installed on your PC or Hotmail which is accessed over the web.

Jorum subject feeds

Jorum RSS Feeds allow you to keep up to date with new resources as and when they are contributed. The main advantage is that you don’t have to keep logging into Jorum to find out if there is something new you might be interested in. Listed below are some prebuilt RSS searches for each subject area based on the JACS(Higher Education) taxonomy. Click the subject link and the destination URL can then be pasted into your RSS aggregator or VLE (Blackboard, Moodle course).
